SAN CLEMENTE was founded in 1925 by Ole Hanson as a planned real-estate development called “Spanish Village by the Sea,” the site was named for offshore San Clemente Island, which was named by the Spanish explorer Sebastián Vizcaíno to honour St. Clement. FROM SAN JUAN HILLS TO THE SAN CLEMENTE PIER IS 10 MILES. One of the most iconic landmarks in San Clemente is the San Clemente Pier. The first constructed pier was built in 1928 and was 1,200 feet long. The pier is perpendicular to the San Clemente Beach trail which starts at North Beach and goes as far as Califia taking you 2.6 miles along the beaches of San Clemente. A mecca for boutique shopping and now an outlet mall plus excellent dining, downtown San Clemente offers variety and plenty to explore - all in short walking distance. Plus other top attractions like the beaches & Casa Romantica, and are all just a short walk from the shops.
